Greece’s Independence Day is celebrated in today’s Doodle! On this day in 1821, the Greek public began their battle for opportunity against the Ottoman Realm.
People across the nation gather on this day every year to watch parades. Dressed in their national colors, schoolchildren wave the Greek flag as they march through the streets.
On National Day, practically all organizations are shut aside from the popular Acropolis Historical center. A traditional dish that is synonymous with the holiday is bakalarios skordalia, or deep-fried cod served with mashed potatoes and a garlic dip. Many people enjoy this dish.
Happy National Day, Greece!
