A Tennessee woman breaks the record for the longest mullet ever

The record for the longest female competitive mullet in the world belongs to a 58-year-old Tennessee woman.

Tami Manis, a native of Knoxville, is 5 ft 8 in (172.72 cm) tall with a flowing mane, which is almost as tall as the normal man.

Ms. Manis, a public health nurse, has had a mullet since the 1980s after being inspired by a ‘Til Tuesday’ music video. She hasn’t had her hair cut in 33 years.

The Guinness World Records book for 2024 will include a picture of her haircut.

Ms. Manis stated that the first time she saw the music video for the song Voices Carry, some forty years ago, was the beginning of her mullet journey.

The woman stated to the Guinness World of Records, “The girl had a rattail and I really wanted one of those.”

Then, in November 1989, she cropped her mullet, which she immediately regretted. As a result, she let it out again in February 1990 and has not trimmed it since.

A mullet is sometimes described as having “business in the front and a party in the back” because of its short front, top, and side cuts, and its length in the back.

Stars like Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario Lopez, and Patrick Swayze helped to popularise it in the 1980s and early 1990s.

According to Ms. Manis, she often catches people at surprise since they don’t realise how long her hair is until she turns around.

Ms. Manis gives her good genes the credit for how she was able to grow it so long.

She added, “I also do a conditioner which has Argan oil in it.”

It’s not always simple to wear a mullet that long, though. Ms. Manis’ hair is longer than she is, therefore she frequently wears braids to control it.

Ms. Manis competed in the 2022 US Mullet Championships, where she placed second, prior to winning the World Record.
