Trailer of Amy Winehouse’s Biopic ‘Back to Black’ Released

The first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Back to Black, the impending music biopic about the late Amy Winehouse, has been released by producers StudioCanal and Monumental Pictures.

Developing In the feature film by director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy, 50 Shades of Grey), Winehouse is portrayed by British actress Marisa Abela (Industry). On April 12, back to black bows in the UK and Ireland. On May 10, Focus Features will distribute the movie in the United States.

The biopic, which was written by Matt Greenhalgh, the scribe of Control and Nowhere Boy, was made with the full assistance of Sony Music Publishing, Universal Music Group, and The Amy Winehouse Estate. It will include many of Winehouse’s hit songs. The multi-Grammy-winning British soul phenomenon charted with songs like “Rehab,” “Valerie,” and “Love is a Losing Game” in addition to the title single. Over 30 million recordings were sold worldwide by her throughout her brief career. Winehouse battled addiction and unwelcome public attention despite her meteoric rise to fame. On July 23, 2011, at the age of 27, she passed away from an apparent accidental alcohol overdose.

Back to Black centres on Winehouse’s early years spent in London, her ascent to stardom, and the creation of her ground-breaking studio album.

In addition to Marisa Abela, the film stars Jack O’Connell as Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Lesley Manville as Amy’s grandmother Cynthia, and Eddie Marsan and Juliet Cowan as Amy’s parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse.

Along with Nicky Kentish-Barnes (About Time, About A Boy), Alison Owen (Me Before You, Elizabeth) and Debra Hayward (Les Miserables, Bridget Jones’s Baby) are producing Back to Black for Monumental Pictures. Along with Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin, SVP Global Production at Studioncanal, Sam Taylor-Johnson serves as executive producer.
