The 2024 SAG Awards will stream live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 24, starting at 8 a.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
The event, which honors the top performers in television and film, is Netflix’s first live awards presentation. It was made possible by a multiyear agreement that was signed in 2023 and saw the SAG Awards stream live on Netflix’s YouTube page. The ceremony this year can only be seen on the streaming service.
At 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Netflix, as well as the Netflix TikTok and YouTube channels, there will be an official SAG preshow hosted by Tan France and Elaine Welteroth.
A pre-ceremony red carpet special will be streamed live on People.com, EW.com, and its YouTube, Facebook, X, and TikTok channels starting at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT prior to that.
The Ceremony
Idris Elba will kick off this year’s event, which is typically hostless. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt will present, in a sort of reunion from The Devil Wears Prada. Erika Alexander, Danielle Brooks, Sterling K. Brown, Michael Cera, Jessica Chastain, Colman Domingo, Robert Downey Jr., Phil Dunster, Billie Eilish, America Ferrera, Brendan Fraser, Taraji P. Henson, Troy Kotsur, Greta Lee, Melissa McCarthy, Cillian Murphy, Glen Powell, Issa Rae, Storm Reid, Margot Robbie, Tracee Ellis Ross, Alexander Skarsgård, Omar Sy, Hannah Waddingham, Naomi Watts, and Jeffrey Wright are among the participants this year.
Barbra Streisand will receive the 59th SAG Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, with Jennifer Aniston having the honor of presenting the award to her. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher will also speak during the show, likely focusing on last year’s actors’ strike and its resolution.
The Nominees
The SAG Awards traditionally serve as a precursor to the Oscars. Last year’s winners included casting (Oscar winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and acting (eventual Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Brendan Fraser, Ke Hui Quan, It was a perfect match for Jamie Lee Curtis.
This year, four of the five cast nominees are also nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: American Fiction, Barbie, The Holdovers, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Year. Flower Moon” (The Color Purple is a SAG outlier). All but one of the SAG Best Actor nominees are also Oscar nominees. The only exception is Robbie, who was selected by the Oscar Academy for Barbie (Sandra Hülser for Anatomy of a Fall received that nomination instead).
Overall, Barbenheimer duo Barbie and Oppenheimer lead the way with four SAG nominations each by Saturday’s ceremony, followed by American Fiction and Killers of the Flower Moon with three each. This was followed by a number of nominations.
In the television category, the final season of Succession topped the list with five nominations, including drama series cast. Also in the race are Netflix’s “The Morning Show,” “The Last of Us,” “The Gilded Age” and “The Crown.” White Lotus won this division last year.
This year’s candidates are Ted Lasso, Barry, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear, and Barry, while Abbott Elementary looks to defend its Comedy Series Cast victory from the previous year. Three nominations apiece go to Ted Lasso, The Last of Us, and The Bear.
