Big 12 Releases Football Season Schedule for 2024

The Big 12 Conference revealed the 2024 season’s game schedule today, meaning that the University of Utah football programme will formally enter a new era in 212 days.

Utah plays its first game of the season at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Thursday, August 29 against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. On Saturday, September 7, the team hosts a non-conference game at home against the Baylor Bears. On Saturday, September 14, the Utes play their final non-conference game at Utah State.

Oklahoma State’s Boone Pickens Stadium will host the start of Big 12 play on Saturday, September 21. The Cowboys have made it to the league championship game the previous two seasons. Utah has 28 conference titles under its belt and an all-time record of 445-260-19 (.627) in conference games going into the 2024 season.

On Saturday, September 28, Utah will make its way back to Rice-Eccles Stadium to face the Arizona Wildcats, who concluded the season rated in the top-15 in each of the three postseason polls. The Utes have won six of the previous seven games in the series, and they are 26-20-2 all-time against Arizona.

With a four-game winning streak in the all-time rivalry, Utah is poised for a BYE week on October 5 and a road game against the Arizona State Sun Devils. As the season approaches, the league and TV networks will determine the game date; Friday, October 11, or Saturday, October 12, are two potential dates.

On Saturday, October 19, the Utes will play TCU in Rice-Eccles Stadium, pitting old rivals against one another. Utah has a 5-3 record against its former Mountain West rival, including an incredible 13-10 comeback victory for the Utes in Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2008.

On Saturday, October 26, Utah will travel to Houston, Texas, to play the Houston Cougars before moving on to their second BYE week of the season (Nov. 2). Houston and the Utes have only met four times overall, and their last meeting took place in 1978.

Following the BYE, Utah will visit BYU in Rice-Eccles Stadium for the first time since 2018 in a matchup between longtime foes and newcomers. It will be the 102nd meeting between the two teams when they play on Saturday, Nov. 9. Utah has an overall record of 62-35-4 and a 40-17-3 record in Salt Lake City.

Named the “Rumble in the Rockies” in previous years, Utah will play Colorado in Boulder on Saturday, November 16 and then host the Iowa State Cyclones for its season-ending home game on Saturday, November 23. This will be the first game between the Utes and the Cyclones since 2010 (W, 68-27), with Utah having defeated the Buffaloes seven times in the previous seven matchups.

On Friday, November 29, Utah will play their final game of the regular season at UCF in Orlando, Florida. This will be Utah’s second visit to the Sunshine State in the previous three seasons and the first meeting between the two teams.
