This week has been quite eventful in Carlsbad as the NCAA Women’s Championship has been taking place day by day. On Wednesday, we witnessed the National Championship clash between the Northwestern Wildcats and Stanford Cardinal, and finally, we have a champion.
The Northwestern Wildcats Women’s Golf team has claimed the title of national champions!
It required all five matches to determine the outcome, but Northwestern emerged victorious in a remarkable manner.
Stanford came into the tournament as the clear favorites, so it was no surprise to see them reach Wednesday’s final. However, Northwestern was determined not to be overlooked and now has the trophy to show for their efforts.
Dianna Lee had a birdie putt to clinch the win on the par-5 18th hole, but it lipped out, leaving her with a par putt that was just long enough to create some tension. Stanford’s Andrea Revuelta couldn’t convert her birdie attempt, while Lee made her par look effortless before celebrating with her team.
The men’s NCAA Tournament will kick off on Friday, completing the college golf season.
Congratulations to Northwestern!
