Complete List of 2025-26 NCAA Men’s Basketball Coaching Changes

Complete List of 2025-26 NCAA Men’s Basketball Coaching Changes

The 2024–25 men’s college basketball season began in November with two interim head coaches: South Florida after the untimely death of Amir Abdur-Rahim, and Virginia after the unexpected retirement of Tony Bennett. As more teams joined or were scheduled to join at the end of the season, the coaching carousel started to revolve.

Florida State, Indiana, Utah, Texas, and Miami are some of the largest of such jobs.

Duke assistant Jai Lucas being appointed to lead the Hurricanes is now old news — just like Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen stepping in at Utah and Sacramento Kings assistant Luke Loucks returning to coach his alma mater, Florida State.

Additionally, the announcement made on the first day of the First Four games, regarding Indiana hiring Darian DeVries from West Virginia after only one year with the Mountaineers, is also outdated. Will Wade has agreed to join NC State following the elimination of his 12-seeded McNeese Cowboys from the NCAA tournament in the round of 32.

Furthermore, just days after losing to Xavier in the First Four, Rodney Terry was dismissed from Texas — and Musketeers head coach Sean Miller has taken the position in Austin. Richard Pitino has accepted the Xavier job — which means he will indeed be coaching against his father, Rick Pitino, in the Big East next season.

Kevin Willard answered queries about whether he would accept the Villanova position during Maryland’s run in the NCAA tournament. Following the Terps’ elimination in the Sweet 16, he agreed to it. Buzz Williams will replace him in College Park, while Bucky McMillan will introduce Buckyball to Texas A&M and the SEC.

In the full list below, we documented every coaching firing and hiring decision made in the men’s game during the 2025–2026 season. Coaches that are considered interim are indicated by an asterisk.
