Women’s Asia Cup 2025 Hockey: India Dominate Thailand 11-0 in Opener Game

The Indian hockey team defeated Thailand 11-0 on Friday at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Hockey Field in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, to start their Women’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign.

Udita (30′, 52′), Mumtaz Khan (7′, 49′), and Beauty Dung Dung (45′, 54′) each scored two goals for India. The scoreboard also included Sangita Kumari (10′), Navneet Kaur (16′), Lalremsiami (18′), Sharmila Devi (57′), and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (60′).

Against global No. 30 Thailand, India, ranked ninth in the women’s hockey rankings, dominated the opening quarter with field goals from Mumtaz Khan and Sangita Kumari.

India increased their attacking vigor in the second quarter, scoring three more goals to widen their lead.

The first half ended well with a 5-0 lead with goals from midfielder Lalremsiami and seasoned forward Navneet Kaur. Udita then converted a penalty corner.

Similar tactics were used in the second half as India gained four penalty corners in the third quarter and continued to attack within Thailand’s circle. In the forty-fifth minute, Beauty Dung Dung scored her first goal.

India scored five goals in the last quarter of the game to secure a significant victory. Beauty Dung Dung and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored field goals for their team, while Mumtaz Khan, Udita, and Sharmila Devi scored from penalty corners.

India, the 2004 and 2017 Women’s Asia Cup winners, is paired alongside three-time winners and reigning champions Japan, Thailand, and Singapore in Pool B. India’s next match is against Japan on Saturday.

The Women’s Asia Cup hockey competition this year also serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2026 Hockey World Cup, which Belgium and the Netherlands are co-hosting.

Teams that place second through fifth will advance to the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, which will take place early in the following year, while the winners will get a straight berth.
