History of the DIII Men’s Soccer Championship-
Amherst enters the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship as the defending national champion, having captured the 2024 title in dramatic fashion. The Mammoths defeated Connecticut College on penalty kicks in last year’s championship match, adding another chapter to their impressive postseason legacy. The 2024 final showcased the competitive balance and intensity that define Division III soccer, as Amherst’s composure in the shootout secured their place atop the DIII ranks.
Since its inception in 1974, the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship has featured some of the most competitive and unpredictable tournaments in college soccer. Over the decades, programs like Messiah, Amherst, Tufts, and Wheaton (Ill.) have built dynasties, combining strong defense, disciplined play, and championship pedigree. Messiah College remains the most successful program in DIII men’s soccer history, with a record number of national titles and consistent dominance during the 2000s and 2010s.
