15 MLS players are on head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-man squad, providing both seasoned players and up-and-coming talent with a chance to make an impression. The 2025 Gold Cup is the program’s final competition in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will co-host.
The USMNT will play Saudi Arabia at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium on June 19 and Haiti at AT&T Stadium on June 22 after this game. The quarterfinals are reached by the top two teams in each group.
United States
The seven-time champions are in poor form going into this year’s Gold Cup, having dropped four straight games for the first time since 2007.
After losing 2-1 to Türkiye last Saturday and 4-0 to Switzerland on Tuesday in pre-Gold Cup friendly, the USMNT has already suffered two setbacks. The quarterfinals of UEFA Euro 2024 were reached by both opponents.
Jack McGlynn (Houston Dynamo FC) and Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake) might supply them in midfield while Pochettino looks for answers. In the meantime, Patrick Agyemang of Charlotte FC and Brian White of Vancouver Whitecaps FC are fighting for the No. 9 role.
Tobago and Trinidad
Making their 19th participation at the Gold Cup (previously the Concacaf Championship), Trinidad & Tobago will try to match or better their best-ever third-place result from 2000 by going all the way.
A few MLS players are on the Soca Warriors roster, including strikers Tyrese Spicer (Toronto FC) and Dante Sealy (CF Montréal), as well as midfielders Wayne Frederick (Colorado Rapids) and Jay Fortune (Atlanta United). Sealy scored two goals in a 6-2 win over St. Kitts & Nevis last week while making his World Cup qualifying debut.
Trinidad & Tobago has cause to think an upset outcome is possible, even though they are ranked 100th in the most recent FIFA World Rankings. They have triumphed in two of their last six encounters with the USMNT, including a stunning outcome that prevented the Yanks from qualifying for the FIFA 2018 World Cup and a 2-1 comeback victory in the 2023–24 Concacaf Nations League.
