NFL Confirms 2025 Thanksgiving Triple-Header Featuring Cowboys–Chiefs Matchup

Now that the NFL season is 13 weeks old, every game is becoming more and more significant as the season goes on.

There are certain matchups that stand out above the others, even though it is true that every single game technically matters just as much as any other when it comes to deciding who will make the playoffs (or win tiebreakers or have a better draft selection) and have the opportunity to compete for the Lombardi Trophy away from the Eagles. And there are a handful of them on the Thanksgiving Day schedule this year.

The Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys will play each year on Thanksgiving afternoon. However, we also have a prime-time game that might be a barn burner, and it appears like Joe Burrow’s injury situation will improve. Details on the Thanksgiving slate for 2025 can be found below.

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

The rematch of the Week 1 game, in which the Packers thoroughly dominated the Lions, is highly anticipated. In this game, Detroit will undoubtedly be looking retribution, while Green Bay will be hoping to secure another victory and challenge for the division title.

With 85 Thanksgiving games since 1934, the Lions have played more than any other club. They have an overall record of 38-45-2, but last year they finally won after losing every season from 2017 and 2023. Naturally, the clock-management fiasco that led to the firing of former Bears coach Matt Eberflus (who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys) made last year’s game notable.

This game is part of the Lions’ difficult post-bye week schedule, which includes consecutive games against the Vikings (loss), Commanders (win), Eagles, Giants, Packers, Cowboys, and Rams. The week following Thanksgiving, that game versus Dallas will also air on “Thursday Night Football.”

As many people are aware, from 1951 until 1963, the Packers faced the Lions on Thanksgiving every year. The Packers have a 16-20-2 record in their 38 Thanksgiving games. Well, last year was their last Thanksgiving performance. In the prime-time match, they defeated the Dolphins 30-13. Since they faced and defeated the Lions 29–22 in 2023, this will actually be their third consecutive Thanksgiving game.

The Packers, who play the Vikings in Week 12, Detroit in Week 13, and the Bears in Week 14, are in the midst of a difficult divisional stretch.

Kansas City Chiefs at Dallas Cowboys

Date: Nov. 27 | Time: 4:30 p.m. ET
Location:
AT&T Stadium (Arlington, TX)
TV:
CBS | Streaming: Paramount+

This game will have enormous viewership even though the Cowboys are already on the very periphery of postseason contention. The Chiefs are currently arguably the NFL’s second-biggest draw, but only if they haven’t yet overtaken the Cowboys. Dallas is always a ratings machine.

Oh, and there will be a ton of stars on both sides of the ball in this exciting football game. Quinnen Williams, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, Rashee Rice, Patrick Mahomes, and more on the same field at the same time? Please, yes. Register me.

Dallas has a 34-22-1 overall record after playing 57 Thanksgiving games. The Cowboys have won three consecutive Thanksgiving games, all of which have come against divisional rivals: Washington once and the Giants twice. Their most recent Thanksgiving defeat was in 2021 when they were playing without both Lamb and Amari Cooper and lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime.

The Cowboys will play the Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, Vikings, and Chargers in a row before wrapping out the season against the Commanders and Giants. This game is part of their ridiculous end-of-season push.

Although Kansas City has not played on Thanksgiving since 2006, when Larry Johnson ran for 157 yards to help the Chiefs defeat the division-rival Broncos, the team is 5-5 in its ten Thanksgiving games. In addition to the games hosted by the Lions and Cowboys, the league held a Thursday night game on Thanksgiving for the first time that year.

When the Cowboys and Chiefs last faced off on Thanksgiving in 1995, Michael Irvin’s 11-catch, 121-yard performance helped the Cowboys win 24-12.

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens

TV:
NBC

This is another major divisional clash, similar to the one that opens the day. We want to see a rematch between the Bengals and Ravens on Thanksgiving night after two of the most exciting games of the 2024 season. Joe Burrow has been targeted as a possible return date for Week 13, so at the very least, let’s hope we get to see him play in this game.

The Bengals have only ever played one Thanksgiving game; in 2010, they lost to the Jets 26–10 in a rematch of their previous year’s playoff meeting. Starting with this game, the Bengals have an intriguing schedule that includes a trip to Baltimore, a trip to Buffalo to play the Bills, and a trip back home to host the Ravens once more in Week 15.

The Ravens have only participated in two Thanksgiving games, both of which they won in 2011 and 2013. The Ravens were the reigning Super Bowl champions when they last faced the Steelers in 2013. Between these two games versus Cincinnati, Baltimore will host the Steelers.
