Cooperstown, one of the most unforgiving Halls of Fame in sports, will induct five new members in 2025: three elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and two by the Classic Baseball Era Committee.
Since 2020, only one other Hall of Fame class has had as many members as this one (seven in 2022), making 2025 one of the largest Cooperstown classes in recent memory. With baseball icons such as Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia being inducted this year, the event is one that no baseball fan should miss.
Here is all you should know about the 2025 MLB Hall of Fame induction ceremony:
When is the Hall of Fame ceremony?
The ceremony will air on MLB Network, MLB.TV, MLB.com, and the MLB app on Sunday, July 27 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The Clark Sports Center, located in Cooperstown, New York, approximately one mile south of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, will host the event.
Who is getting inducted?
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America inducted three players: seven-time All-Star closer Billy Wagner, 2007 AL Cy Young winner and member of the 3,000-strikeout club CC Sabathia, and 2001 AL MVP and single-season hits record holder Ichiro Suzuki.
Dave Parker and Dick Allen were elected by the Classic Baseball Era Committee. Both guys will be memorialized posthumously. Parker, who died this month, was the National League MVP in 1978, won two World Series titles with the Pirates and Athletics, and was a two-time hitting champion. Allen, who died in 2020, was named the AL MVP in 1972. He’s a seven-time All-Star with a career.951 OPS, the sixth highest of any player in the Integration Era with at least 5,000 plate appearances. The only men with higher marks are Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Mike Trout, Mark McGwire, and Mickey Mantle.
Which cap will Sabathia wear in Cooperstown?
Sabathia will become the 22nd New York Yankee to be inducted into Cooperstown’s Baseball Hall of Fame. Sabathia spent 11 years with pinstripes, compared to 7.5 with Cleveland. Sabathia’s only World Series title came with the Yankees. He also placed in the top five in Cy Young voting for each of his first three seasons in the Bronx.
Ichiro and Wagner’s decisions were much simpler because they are best recognized for one team: the Mariners and Astros, respectively. Parker will enter the Hall as a Pirate, but Allen will be inducted as a Phillies player.
