The Indian Premier League 2025 competition for a top-four finish is coming to a head.

IPL 2022 champions Along with three-time runners-up Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, the Gujarat Titans remain atop the IPL 2025 rankings and have already guaranteed a postseason berth.

The Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Mumbai Indians, five-time champions, are still in the running for the IPL 2025 playoffs. But this season, there is only one playoff spot available.

The first two teams to be eliminated of the playoff race were the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals. Then came the Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

How can teams qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs?

The IPL 2025 playoffs are open to the top four teams in the standings at the conclusion of the league stage, which consists of 70 games.

When teams have played their 14 matches and are tied on the same number of points, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will be used. Higher on the points table will be the side with a higher NRR.

Qualifier 1 will be a match between the top two teams from the league stage, with the victor advancing directly to the final. The Eliminator will pit the third- and fourth-place teams against one another, with the loser eliminated.

In Qualifier 2, the winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2 will face off against the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator for the second slot in the final.

Top-performing teams in the IPL playoffs

In 18 seasons, the Chennai Super Kings have made it to the playoffs 12 times. They played in a record 26 postseason games, winning 17 of them and losing nine.

The Mumbai Indians have won 13 and lost seven of their 20 postseason games. However, with five titles in six tries, MI has the greatest record in the finals.

In 2010, they only lost to CSK in an IPL final.
