Argentina and Canada faced off in the opening match of the 2024 Copa America. They met again on Tuesday, and the tension was even higher.
Nearly three weeks after Argentina beat Canada 2-0 on its way to winning Group A, the two countries will meet again in one of the Copa America semifinals.
Tuesday night’s match will be the third time the two teams have met. Argentina won the first two matches, winning 5-0 in a friendly in 2010 and 2-0 in the group stage of the aforementioned tournament.
The 2022 world champions will be looking to win a second consecutive Copa America title after winning the 2021 tournament. Argentina won all of their group stage matches this year and beat Ecuador on penalties in the quarterfinals.
Canada will look to continue its impressive run under American head coach Jesse Marsh. After winning Group A, the team defeated Group B winner Venezuela in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals. The country has not won an international soccer trophy since winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2000.
The winner of this semifinal will face the winner of Uruguay vs. Colombia in Sunday’s tournament final.
