Meta Pay is Meta’s digital wallet option, which, like Google Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal, allows customers to purchase things without using their credit cards. If you sell on Meta applications or through a compatible ecommerce payment processor, Meta Pay can make checkout easier if it is your target customer’s preferred payment option.
In this guide, you will learn how Meta Pay works, how it protects your clients’ information, and how to set it up for your business.
What is MetaPay?
Meta Pay, formerly Facebook Pay, is a digital wallet that provides a secure payment system for online shopping, sending money to friends, and making donations. It can be used at online retailers that accept Meta Pay, as well as on Meta platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
Meta Pay is comparable to other digital wallets, such as PayPal and Apple Pay. All three providers enable consumers to:
- Create a secure account.
- Save your preferred payment method (credit or debit card).
- Store the package and contact information.
For small business owners, Meta Pay provides the same benefits as any other digital wallet. Customers can complete a secure, quick checkout without having to pull out their physical credit or debit card or type information into the checkout page. However, Meta Pay is not as widely available as other digital wallets. While 90% of US retailers accept Apple Pay, Meta Pay is only available through Meta apps and participating online stores.
Meta Pay is another digital payment option that offers customers a secure checkout experience, particularly in social media stores.
How Does Meta Pay Work?
If your company uses ecommerce software that supports Meta Pay, you can add a Meta Pay button to your checkout page. Meta Pay does not directly send payments; rather, it enables the procedure by securely providing the customer’s saved payment information. Here’s what occurs when a consumer uses Meta Pay to make a purchase:
1. The customer creates a Meta Pay account and adds a preferred payment card to the wallet, along with their billing address, contact information, and shipping information. The Meta Pay digital wallet saves these information.
2. When the customer checks out with Meta Pay, they will be asked to enter their Meta Pay PIN to authenticate their identification.
3. Meta Pay gets the customer’s payment details and sends it to your payment processor.
4. The payment processor talks with the customer’s bank to ensure there are sufficient money for the transaction.
5. If the transaction is approved, the payment processor transfers the funds from the customer’s bank account or credit card to your account.
How to Accept Payments Through Meta Pay
Meta Pay is no longer an accelerated checkout option for Shopify stores. However, it is accepted by a few other payment processors. When you build a shop with the Meta app, you can add Meta Pay as a payment method. Your customers can then make secure payments using the information stored in their Meta Pay account. Here’s how to set up MetaPay:
1. Open a Meta Business account.
Start by creating a Meta Business account. Launch your personal Facebook account, then click the Pages button in the left-hand menu of your homepage and select the “+ Create New Page” button. Enter the information about your business.
2. Integrate Meta Pay with Facebook and Instagram Shop
Although some online stores still accept Meta Pay, Meta has discontinued its partnership program. New online stores are unable to integrate Meta Pay. Instead, the company is expanding Meta Pay functionality across its own ecosystem, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
Meta Pay can be used in your Facebook and Instagram shops. When a consumer selects Meta Pay for the first time, they are routed to a payment page where they can safely enter their payment details. Going ahead, Meta Pay will automatically retrieve the customer’s details for quicker checkout.
3. Start receiving money
Payments made with Meta Pay should be transferred into your account immediately. Some transactions may take longer, although they are examined within 24 hours.
You can set up and manage your payout accounts through your Meta Business account, which includes the ability to manually link a bank account or a PayPal account. Customers and merchants can use the service for free, however payment processors may impose fees for Meta Pay transactions.
Is Meta Pay safe?
Meta Pay uses numerous layers of security to protect your customers’ payment information and transactions. Security measures include:
- Anti-fraud technology. Meta’s monitoring systems regularly scan clients’ accounts to detect unwanted behavior and respond to any risks. The information is kept distinct from user profile data, providing an additional layer of privacy protection.
- Bank-level encryption. Meta Pay encrypts bank account and payment card information with industry-standard security methods. This protects sensitive financial information from unauthorized access.
