To celebration the start of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which begins on Tuesday, September 30 in Guwahati, Assam, Google has released a vibrant Doodle. First held in 1973, the tournament’s 13th edition is scheduled to finish on November 2 at locations around India and Sri Lanka.
Eight teams, including the defending champions, Australia, will compete for the sport’s most coveted trophy this year. India will try to win their first World Cup as they co-host this tournament for the fourth time. Sri Lanka will play the hosts, India, in the first match.
Through its creative weaving of cricket themes into Google’s iconic logo, the unique artwork effectively conveys the essence of the competition. Bold and colorful 3D lettering is included into the design. Two letters have been replaced with a pink ball and cricket bat. The wordmark on the right is finished by a group of stumps. The doodle draws attention to the World Cup’s widespread appeal and the expansion of women’s cricket.
Google has previously featured women’s cricket in their celebrations. The brand also created a doodle during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which featured images of female players batting, fielding, and appealing, along with a cricket ball as one of the “O”s. There were ten teams that competed in the tournament, which was hosted in the United Arab Emirates, and New Zealand won.
Eight top teams are vying for cricket’s most coveted women’s trophy in 31 matches spread between India and Sri Lanka in the 50-over tournament. Two years prior to the first men’s World Cup, the Women’s World Cup took place in 1973.
The event has been held in India before in 1978, 1997, and 2013. They have made it to the finals twice (1978 and 2017), however they have yet to win the trophy. India’s opening match against Sri Lanka is led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.
The most successful team, Australia, has won seven titles and wants to continue dominance. The West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa, and England, which is ranked second, are further competitors.
Four of the five locations for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 are in India, and one is in Sri Lanka. It will end on November 2. All of the league games will be played in Sri Lanka, with the exception of the first encounter against India and the group match against Bangladesh.
