Qatar’s National Day is celebrated in today’s Doodle. This day in 1878 marked the accession of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani as Qatar’s monarch. He brought the indigenous tribes together and forged a feeling of national identity. He is widely regarded as the creator of modern Qatar, and as a result, the event has been given a second name: Founder’s Day.
A grand procession through the streets of Doha celebrates 146 years of national unification. The Qatari flag is proudly hang, turning the nation into a sea of white and maroon.
Others attend lectures or exciting athletic activities that celebrate Qatari history and culture. Fireworks exploding in the sky, laser beams, and bright water jets light up the sky as night descends.
Qatar, happy National Day!
