Today’s Doodle celebrates Vietnam’s National Day. On this day in 1945, thousands of citizens gathered at Ba Đình Square in Hanoi to hear the President read the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
For Vietnamese people, September 2 is a day to honor the many sacrifices of previous generations for independence and a reminder to carry their heritage into the future. To celebrate, people gather across the country for cultural ceremonies, joyous parades, and music shows.
Many also visit historic holiday sites such as Hanoi Old Quarter and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, decorated with the red and yellow Vietnamese flag like in today’s piece. National dishes such as pho, banh mi, and bun bo hue are also enjoyed by the masses.
Happy Vietnam National Day!
