Boston Marathon 2025: Date, Time, Route & How to Watch Live

Now that April has arrived, racers are preparing to go to Massachusetts for the 129th Boston Marathon 2025.

On Monday, April 21, Patriots’ Day in Boston, the oldest marathon in the world begins.

Tens of thousands of fans and competitors attend the yearly competition, which is one of six World Marathon Majors, which culminating in a 26.2-mile run from Hopkinton, Massachusetts, to Boston.

Both professional and amateur runners compete in the marathon. The Boston Athletic Association organizes it annually, and this year Bank of America is the sponsor.

Here are some things to be aware of regarding the Boston Marathon in 2025.

When is the Boston Marathon in 2025?

Patriots’ Day, celebrated on the third Monday in April in Massachusetts, coincides with the Boston Marathon in 2025. It falls on April 21 this year.

The Boston Marathon begins at what time?

Racers’ start timings for the Boston Marathon are staggered, with Wave 4, or the final wave, starting at roughly 11:15 a.m. ET. The first wave starts at around 10 a.m. ET.

About six hours after the final competitor crosses the starting line, the Boston Marathon finish line will close at 5:30 p.m.

What is the course for the Boston Marathon?

Starting in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the 26.2-mile marathon course travels through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline before entering Boston and coming to a close on Boylston Street, which is adjacent to the Boston Public Library.

How to watch the Boston Marathon in 2025

In Boston, the 2025 Boston Marathon will air on WCVB Channel 5 from 4 a.m. ET to 8 p.m. ET, same like in 2024.

In addition to WCVB in Boston, its regional sister stations, WMUR in Manchester, New Hampshire; NMTW in Portland/Auburn, Maine; and WPTZ in Burlington, Vermont/Plattsburgh, New York, will also simulcast the race.

ESPN will carry the event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET for those who are not in the Northeast.

The Boston Marathon in 2024: Who won?

Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia won both the men’s division and the overall title last year with a timing of 2:06:17.

Kenyan athlete Hellen Obiri won first position in the women’s division with a time of 2:22:37.
