The Tunisian National Day is celebrated in today’s Doodle! On this day in 1956, after lengthy negotiations with France, a treaty was signed officially recognizing Tunisian independence and establishing the Kingdom of Tunisia.
In honor of those who fought for the country’s independence, parades and wreath-laying ceremonies are held nationwide to commemorate the holiday.
The Tunisian flag and the country’s colors of red and white are used by citizens to decorate buildings, cars, and streets. The Medina of Tunis, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and is home to numerous monuments, palaces, and fountains, is a popular destination for many tourists.
The day serves as a reminder to many Tunisians to keep fighting for democracy.
