“Feel the thrill” as India and Sri Lanka host the 10th edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Twenty teams, including the United States, are participating in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament, which runs from February 7 to March 8. According to the ICC, Italy will make their debut in the 2024 tournament, joining the United States, Canada, and Uganda.”The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is uniquely competitive, thrilling, and expressive, with moments that become lifelong memories for both players and fans,” ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said in a statement.
India enters the event as the defending champion, having won the cricket World Cup in 2024, which was hosted by the United States and the West Indies. Six different teams have won the tournament: the West Indies (2012, 2016), India (2007, 2024), England (2010, 2022), Australia (2021), Pakistan (2009), and Sri Lanka (2014).

The 10th Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup will take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

Matches will be place in eight venues across seven cities. India’s venues include:
- Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
- MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
- Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
- Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will host games in:

- R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo

The format was first presented at the professional level in England in 2003, and it immediately gained popularity across the world. According to the ICC, the Men’s T20 World Cup was established in 2007 to bring new audiences to the sport.

As the competition begins, three matches are scheduled to be played each day, starting at the following times:
- 10:30 a.m. local time / 12:30 a.m. ET
- 2:30 p.m. local time / 4:30 a.m. ET

Teams are selected based on rankings, and Scotland was called in to replace Bangladesh at the last minute after the latter dropped out of the event due to the ICC’s unwillingness to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka. Bangladesh’s cricket board requested that the ICC reschedule the team’s matches owing to safety concerns amid rising political tensions between the two countries, BBC News reported.
ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Prize Money
While the prize money for the winners has yet to be released, the previous edition provided a “historic prize pot of $11.25 million” distributed among participating teams, according to the ICC.
Below is a breakdown of the prize money for the 2024 tournament:
- 2024 T20 World Cup champion: $2.45 million
- Runners-up: $1.28 million
- Teams that lose in the semifinals: $787,500 per team
- Teams that lose in the Super 8s: $382,500 per team
- Teams that finished 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th: $247,000 per team
- Teams that finished 13th to 20th: $225,000 per team
Except for the final and semifinals, each team will receive an additional $31,154 for each match it wins.
