NCAA Announces 2025 DI Field Hockey Tournament Selections

The teams that will compete in the 2025 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship were revealed today by the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee. Automatic qualification was granted to ten conferences. There will be two first-round matches between the four automatic-qualification teams with the lowest rankings. The bracket was filled with the remaining six teams that qualified automatically.

The following conferences were automatically qualified, as were their representatives:

Big Ten Conference Northwestern (18-1)

The Ivy League Princeton (15-3)
Mid-American Conference Miami (OH) (15-4)
Northeast Conference Fairfield (15-5)
Patriot League Boston U. (8-10)

UConn (11-8), Duke (12-7), Harvard (17-1), Iowa (14-5), Syracuse (12-6), Virginia (16-2), Wake Forest (15-4), and Yale (12-5) are the remaining eight teams that were chosen at-large (listed alphabetically).

Two of the first and second round sites will host opening round games on Wednesday, November 12. There will be four campus sites for the first and second rounds. November 14, Friday, and November 16, Sunday. Every preliminary round match will be broadcast on ESPN+. At Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, Duke University will host the championship final on Sunday, November 23, and the national semifinals on Friday, November 21. On November 24, 2024, Northwestern, the defending national champion, defeated Saint Joseph’s 5-0 at Phyllis Ocker Field Hockey Complex in Ann Arbor, Michigan to win its second NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
