The Red Sox will travel to play a division opponent in the Wild Card round since they have secured a postseason berth and are most likely to finish as the fifth seed in the American League. With two games remaining in the season, the Yankees and Blue Jays are tied for the AL East lead. The fourth seed will be the team that hosts the Red Sox in a best-of-three series after losing the division. The Red Sox could still end the season as the sixth seed, in which case they would travel to play the American League Central winner.
