On Friday, Aug. 15, President Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in person in Alaska following months of unsuccessful diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict in Ukraine.
The two leaders are gathering at an American military installation in Alaska. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will not be present. During their two conversations this week, Zelenskyy opposed the notion of making geographical concessions in order to stop the war.
According to Trump, the “more important meeting” will involve Putin and Zelenskyy, he said on August 14. Then, he answered, that will happen.
“We’re going to see what happens,” Trump said Aug. 14. “And I think President Putin will make peace. I think President Zelensky will make peace. We’ll see if they can get along, and if they can, it’ll be great.”
Here are some facts regarding Trump and Putin’s encounter.
