Skechers Launches Kids’ Shoes with Built-In AirTag Slot for Added Safety

Skechers just produced a helicopter parent’s fantasy shoe. Find My Skechers is a new line of children’s shoes that invites parents to tuck an Apple AirTag under the heel. If watching them on Snapchat and tracking their smartwatch weren’t enough, you can now hide an AirTag on their person.

Remember running around the neighborhood with your buddies and being told to get home for dinner? Perhaps biking to and from school? You were learning to navigate the world on your own, and your parents were learning to let you do so, just as they had when they were younger.

Find My Skechers shoes come in sizes for children as young as one and as old as ten. This begs the question: does Skechers believe we are leaving our kids unsupervised to the point that we need to hide trackers in their shoes? On the opposite end of the spectrum, do we suppose a 10-year-old won’t figure out that their parents got the AirTag tracking shoe? Approximately 42% of 10-year-olds hold smartphones and may receive alerts if an AirTag is following them. Furthermore, research suggests that utilizing digital technologies to track your children’s whereabouts may lead to more rebellious behavior.

This feature may help you find shoes left at school, camp, or a sleepover. Some internet users also pointed out that this shoe could be useful for keeping track on elderly loved ones who may wander.

A commercial for the new range of shoes highlights the “clever secure hidden compartment” where parents may hide the AirTag and states that your child will not be able to feel it in their shoes. The shoes are machine washable and available for purchase now. The Apple AirTag is not included.
