The redesigned FIFA Club World Cup is rapidly approaching; the competition is scheduled to begin on June 14, 2025.
The tournament is back after a two-year break, and it’s better and bigger than before. This time, 32 teams—up from the customary seven—will compete for a piece of the $1 billion prize pool, in addition to a brand-new trophy and the opportunity to brag about it around the world.
More teams from all around the world can now compete with to the updated structure; FIFA expects this will increase worldwide viewing and make the event one of the most competitive in international football.
Here is all the information you require regarding the 2025 Club World Cup qualifying players and their journey to the tournament.
How Teams Get Into the Club World Cup in 2025
The expanded 2025 Club World Cup will feature teams from all six of the world soccer regulatory confederations: UEFA (Europe), CONMEBOL (South America), AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), Concacaf (North & Central America), and OFC (Oceania).
Each confederation is given a certain number of spots depending on its competitive balance and historical strength:
- UEFA: 12 teams
- CONMEBOL: 6 teams
- AFC, CAF, and Concacaf: 4 teams each
- OFC: 1 team
- Host nation (USA): 1 team
CONMEBOL and UEFA
Qualification for both UEFA and CONMEBOL is determined by results in the previous four seasons of their top club championships, the Copa Libertadores and the UEFA Champions League. The top-performing teams over that period that haven’t previously qualified will take the remaining spots, with the victor of each year securing an automatic spot.
Concacaf, CAF, and AFC
The rules for these three regions are simpler: a spot is awarded to the winners of the last four AFC Champions League, CAF Champions League, and Concacaf Champions Cup competitions, which are the premier club competitions on each continent. But, as we will see later, there is an exception this year.
OFC
Since Oceania only has one spot, the side with the highest ranking among the previous four OFC Champions League winners, as determined by FIFA’s club performance standards, is chosen.
What If There Are Repeat Winners?
The spot that becomes available to the next highest-ranked team that hasn’t previously qualified is given to the club that wins their confederation’s competition the most times throughout the qualifying period. A point system that awards clubs for victories and deeper runs in their respective tournaments during the previous four years is used to determine rankings.
