Grand Theft Auto 6: New Release Date Set for May 2026

The latest version of the popular video game will not be available to Grand Theft Auto players for another year.

The most recent game in the series, Grand Theft Auto 6, will now be released on May 26, 2026, according to a statement released by Rockstar Games on Friday. Later this year was the anticipated release date for the game.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar Games said.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” said the business. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Millions of copies of Grand Theft Auto, or GTA as it is known in the gaming community, have been sold worldwide. However, fans have been waiting a new title for over ten years. When Grand Theft Auto 5 was published in 2013, it sold more than 200 million copies.

Although the delayed release could decrease revenue, analysts have projected that Grand Theft Auto 6 may prove to be the most profitable launch in the history of the entertainment business.

In contrast with earlier projections of $8 billion, Wedbush Securities analysts stated in a research note that they anticipate $6.35 billion in sales for fiscal year 2026. But they claim that the delay won’t affect GTA 6’s lifetime sales.

Wedbush believes that the game will retail for at least $80, which is comparable to the prices of current Nintendo and Xbox titles.

Fans will get to meet Lucia, the game’s first female heroine, when it comes out next year. Lucia is imprisoned at the beginning of the game and then later appears with a male partner, as shown in the 2023 video, which has received millions of views.

The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, Strauss Zelnick, justified the decision to delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

“We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations,” Zelnick told Bloomberg.
