On this Veterans Day, they remember the millions of men and women who have served their country in valiant defense of the values of honesty and freedom.
Steve Kost, a US Navy veteran and guest artist, created the Doodle. An repurposed scrap metal sculpture from army supply stores and veteran equestrian treatment facilities is part of the Doodle. The sculpture is titled “Freedom Flight” and depicts an American Bald Eagle in flight. It weighs 60 pounds, is 28 inches tall, and is 44 inches broad from wingtip to wingtip.
Originally observed as Armistice Day, Veterans Day paid tribute to World War I veterans. Congress changed the holiday’s name and extended its applicability to all veterans in 1954.
Communities all throughout the world unite to show their appreciation on Veterans Day. While others line the streets for parades with American flags flying and patriotic music playing, many send letters and care packages to those who are currently serving in the military.
