Today’s doodle celebrates German Unity Day. The doodle artwork was painted by guest artist Marcus Gruber from Leipzig. On this day in 1990, East and West Germany made a historic reunification.
The Berlin Wall had fallen a year earlier, and Germans were beginning to bridge the economic and cultural differences between the two countries. While most of the Berlin Wall has been converted into protected green space, the East Side Gallery is the section that remains the longest.
German Unity Day is a day when East and West Germans reflect on their hard-fought unification. This doodle artwork shows the community coming together to celebrate unity and remember their shared German history.
Happy German Unity Day everyone!
