Today’s Doodle celebrates Denmark Constitution Day, or Grundrofsdag. This holiday commemorates the signing of the Danish Constitution and its four amendments, which took place around June 5th. On this day in 1849, the original Constitution was adopted, marking the beginning of a new national era and identity.
On Constitution Day, the red and white Danish flag (or Dannebrog) flies high across the country, just like in works of art today. Many people take part in extravagant parades, lively concerts, enthusiastic rallies, and other celebratory events to show their pride. Friends and families gather in public parks for picnics and barbecues, enjoying polsar (hot dogs), smørrebrød (sandwiches), and more.
Happy Denmark Constitution Day!
