Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Statehood Day is honoured in today’s Doodle. The inaugural session of the Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place on this day in 1943. This occasion recognised equality for all citizens of the country and restored the nation’s status as a state.
The celebration begins with the raising of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian flag, similar to the one seen in today’s Doodle. The nation’s design intentionally leaves off symbols related to religion, politics, and ethnicity because of how diverse its people is. Rather, its yellow, white, and blue hues imply neutrality and serenity.
The capital, Sarajevo, has the biggest celebrations, however they happen throughout the nation. In memorial of those who fought for freedom, flowers are placed at memorials such as the Vječna Vatra (Eternal Flame). Additionally, performances of dance, theatre, and music highlight the state’s beautiful folklore and culture throughout the day.
