World Pride Events are Quietly Canceled by Kennedy Center in “Disappointing” Move

This year’s Pride Month events are a little different due to the Trump-led regime shift at the Kennedy Center.

According to the Associated Press, the Center’s Tapestry of Pride events, which were part of the WorldPride 2025 celebration in Washington, DC, and were originally planned for June 5–8, have been quietly canceled or rescheduled.

“A celebration of diversity and unity, weaving together performances, exhibitions, and experiences for all ages,” the event is still mentioned on the Kennedy Center’s website.

The Center has been contacted by Deadline for comment.

June Crenshaw, deputy director of DC’s Capital Pride Alliance, told the AP: “We are a resilient community, and we have found other avenues to celebrate. We are finding another path to the celebration … but the fact that we have to maneuver in this way is disappointing.”

Following his nomination as the Center’s new chairman and his removal of half of the board members—who had been selected by Joe Biden—Donald Trump paid a visit to the Kennedy Center last month.

Issa Rae has canceled a concert at the Kennedy Center since Trump took over, and Shonda Rhimes has resigned from the board. Supporters of the International Pride Orchestra, the Gay Men’s Chorus of DC, and the Kennedy Center’s postponed touring children’s musical Finn have criticized Trump over the cancelled concerts.

In February, Trump announced his intention to remove people “who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture,” threatening to make the Kennedy Center “GREAT AGAIN.”

“We will soon announce a new Board, with an amazing Chairman, DONALD J. TRUMP!” he added. “Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP. The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation. For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”
