How the Ryder Cup Works
The Ryder Cup pits 12 players from Europe against 12 players from the United States in a variety of competitions to earn points for each side, including best ball, fourball , and match play.
There are 28 points available over three days, and the first 14 points wins. If the match ends in a 14-14 draw, the previous champion retains the trophy. If the match is tied, you receive half a point for your team.
Qualification for Team USA
The team will consist of the top six eligible players from the U.S. Ryder Cup Points list following the BMW Championship on August 17, 2025. Keegan Bradley will have six captain’s picks to complete his team.
In 2024, all players who make the cut at the Players Championship and the Four Major Championships (the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship) will receive one point for every $1,000 earned.
2025 Regular PGA TOUR Events: 1 point per $1000 earned for all players who make the cut in events from January 1, 2025 to the finish of the BMW Championship on August 17, 2025.
The 2025 Major Championships (Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship) will award 1.5 points every $1,000 earned to all players that make the cut.
Qualification for Team Europe
The European team for the 2025 Ryder Cup will be made out of the top six members of the Ryder Cup Points List. Luke Donald, the team leader, will choose the remaining six players.
