Ryan Warsofsky, the current head coach of the San Jose Sharks and a previous coach of the Rays, was selected head coach of the United States Men’s National Ice Hockey Team for the 2025 IIHF World Championship, USA Hockey announced today.
Warsofsky, who was formerly the assistant coach for the 2023 Men’s team, is making his first appearance as head coach of Team USA and his second appearance at the World Championships. He led the United States to fourth place in the tournament in 2023.
From 2013 until 2018, Warsofsky, 37, played with the Stingrays for five seasons. Under current Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery, the Marshfield, Massachusetts native spent three seasons as South Carolina’s assistant coach. The Stingrays advanced to the 2015 Kelly Cup Final with Carbery and Warsofsky’s assistance.
Warsofsky was South Carolina’s head coach for two years after Carbery left. He led the Stingrays to another Kelly Cup Final appearance in 2017 after accumulating an 88-44-10-2 record as head coach.
At the age of 36, Warsofsky became the NHL’s youngest head coach when he was hired as the Sharks’ head coach on June 13, 2024. Along with Carbery and Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar, he is one of three former Stingrays who are currently NHL head coaches.
