About the World Championships for UCI Road
Although it took some time to develop into the spectacle it is today, the UCI Road World Championships have over a century of history and tradition.
The tournament began as an amateur-only competition in 1921 and added a professional division in 1927. In 1958, a women’s division was added, and in 1975, youth categories were added as well.
In addition, the week-long UCI Road World Championships currently feature a U23 women’s title (2022) and a team time trial mixed relay (2019), which will be won in a stand-alone women’s event for the first time in 2025.
During the eight days of competition in 2025, there will be thirteen distinct events on the agenda.
The victors receive the rainbow jersey for all competitions in the same discipline the following season and are regarded as the world champions.
