This weekend in Chicago marks the return of elite gymnastics to the national arena. The 2025 U.S. Classic is the last qualifying event for the August U.S. Gymnastics Championships, and it will take place at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, starting Friday and concluding Saturday.
In addition to being the first significant domestic competition since the Winter Cup in February, the meet offers athletes a significant chance to compete for spots on the World Championship team.
There will be no team competition at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which are scheduled for late October in Jakarta, Indonesia. Four women’s athletes from the United States will compete for individual medals.
The tournament will take place over two days this weekend, with senior athletes competing in two sessions on Saturday, July 19, and junior ladies competing on Friday. Three members of the 2024 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team will be among the top returning stars in the country at Saturday’s second session.
The second session will include Olympic alternates Leanne Wong and Joseclyn Roberson alongside gold medallist Hezly Rivera.
Although Rivera made an appearance at the Winter Cup in February and performed excellently in the Pan American Championships in June, Wong and Roberson will make their official debuts on the professional circuit on Saturday following the conclusion of their respective university seasons.
Recently crowned Pan American All-Around Champion Jayla Hang, a rookie, is probably going to try to win the championship in Chicago. With the greatest total at a continental championship this year, Hang has made an incredible start to the 2025 season. A victory here would further enhance Hang’s case for a roster berth in Jakarta.
Additionally, fans should keep an eye out for Ashlee Sullivan, the 2025 Winter Cup champion, and Claire Pease, the 2024 U.S. Junior National Champion.
