The two remaining Western clubs are the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder. All season long, the top-seeded Thunder have been the best team in the West. They swept the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening round of the playoffs after winning 68 games during the regular season. However, Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets put them to the test in the second round. After defeating Denver in Game 7, OKC won the second-round series in seven games. The projected NBA MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, scored 31 points in Game 1 against the Wolves and has been leading the Thunder in scoring throughout the playoffs.

The Wolves have their own great scorer, Anthony Edwards, who has led Minnesota to the conference finals for the second consecutive year. In five games, the Timberwolves won the first two rounds and defeated the Lakers and Warriors.

After losing to the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2024 postseason, the Timberwolves are hoping to exact revenge. After losing to the Warriors in 2016, the Thunder are making their first appearance in the conference finals.
