Canada Mortgage Professionals (CMP) says many potential buyers are hesitant about Canada’s two most expensive hubs, Toronto and Vancouver. Canada has plenty of real estate options to suit every budget, but you may want to avoid some of the most popular cities where the cost of living has risen to uncomfortable levels.

Canada’s most liveable cities are spread across the country, but if you’re looking to move for purely economic reasons, look to the much smaller cities of Quebec and New Brunswick, where six and four cities have recently moved, respectively. 1. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Median home price: $272,363

2. Brandon, Manitoba

If you’re not afraid to be a fish out of water in this French-speaking city, Saguenay is the perfect place to see up to 13 species of whales, according to Holland America.

6. Saint John, New Brunswick

Median home price: $206,112

Whether you’re looking for a single-family home, townhome, condo, or commercial property, Saint John has your real estate needs covered. “St. John has become a real estate hot spot after the Maritimes started to become featured on many home renovation shows, and this has made the real estate market flourish,” said Tiny House.

7. Red Deer, Alberta

Median home price: $279,724

Red Deer is also a city with a median home price near the $300,000 threshold, compared to increasingly expensive Calgary and Edmonton. It’s affordable. Located between Alberta’s two largest cities, Red Deer is a great option. It is modestly sized (just over 100,000 residents), has a low cost of living, and has the potential to offer the perfect balance between urban amenities and rural life that many refugees crave.
