Taylor Swift announces new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ during Grammy Award win

Taylor Swift announced the release of her upcoming studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on April 19 during her acceptance speech after winning the Grammy for best pop vocal album for “Midnights.”

“Okay, this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that,” Swift joked at the top of her speech. “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19th. It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you! Thank you!”

Swift instantly shared what appeared to be the album’s artwork on her Instagram account. “And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink / All’s fair in love and poetry…” She signed off the poem (or lyrics) with, “Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department.” was her signature at the end of the poem or songs.

Since Swift updated her social media avatars to black and white earlier today, matching the album’s color scheme, many fans anticipated that she would finally unveil “Reputation,” the last album in her “Taylor’s Version” re-recording work.

Swift’s 2022 album “Midnights,” which is vying for album of the year, earned her six Grammy nominations this year. Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” won the nomination for best pop solo performance, and her song “Anti-Hero” was one of them. Along with Ice Spice, Swift is vying for record of the year, song of the year, and best pop duo/group performance for their song “Karma.”

Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour and its concert film are just two stops on her yearlong victory lap. Her most recent Grammy win is merely another one. Swift’s tour will resume in Japan on February 7 and then move on to Melbourne and Sydney. With Swift visiting the United States again in October and November of 2024, the tour will go on for the whole year.
