A new showcase for games that promote environmental causes and directly support actual sustainability initiatives will be included at this year’s Summer Game Fest. The non-profit PlanetPlay is organizing the Green Games Showcase, which will take place on Saturday, June 7 at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT) and be live-streamed on YouTube.
According to PlanetPlay, the event will be “a celebration of game studios that have raised over $100,000 for certified environmental projects around the world.” These initiatives thus far include the Hongera Clean Cookstove project in Kenya, the carbon forestry project WithOneSeed in Timor-Leste, the regenerative garden project Abundant Village in South Africa, and The Teeny Tiny Truth, which attempts to lower microplastics in freshwater systems in New Zealand.
A number of streams, including the Green Games Showcase, are scheduled to occur between Friday’s Summer Game Fest Live and Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase. Check out the Women-Led Games Showcase, the Latin American Game Showcase, the Southeast Asian Games Showcase, Day of the Devs, Devolver Direct, and Wholesome Direct as well. The culmination will be a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach premiere event, where players may get a preview of the game before its June 26 release date.
