“Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler, has been invited back to Imax 70mm screens.
For the film’s limited re-release showings in nine specific Imax 70mm cinemas across North America, which will take place from May 15 to May 21, tickets are currently available. Warner Bros. attributes the re-release to the “overwhelming popular and critical response.”
Since 2019, “Sinners” has had the largest original film launch. Despite a $90 million production budget, “Sinners” has made $122.5 million in North America and $161.6 million worldwide as of April 27.
Imax alone accounted for 20% of opening weekend earnings, but this weekend, Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” will replace the movie on those premium format screens.
“Audiences have spoken and we listened. If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s ‘Sinners,’” Warner Bros. Pictures president of global distribution Jeff Goldstein said in a statement. “Ryan has delivered a film that has been embraced by fans who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating a film for this screen-filling format and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it — or see it again — in 70mm Imax.”
In Imax 70mm, “Sinners” will return to the following locations: City Walk Stadium 19 + Imax (Los Angeles), Irvine Spectrum and Imax (Irvine), Lincoln Square 13 + Imax (New York), Metreon 16 + Imax (San Francisco), Indiana State Museum (Indianapolis), Arizona Mills IMAX (Phoenix), Autonation Imax (Ft. Lauderdale), Webb Chapel Imax (Dallas), and Colossus Imax (Toronto).
In addition to Oscar contender Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo, Michael B. Jordan has a dual part in “Sinners,” which was written and directed by Academy Award-nominated director Coogler. In “Sinners,” twin brothers attempt to escape their unhappy lives by returning to their hometown to begin over, only to find that a more sinister evil awaits them there.
Zinzi Coogler, Ryan Coogler, and Sev Ohanian are the film’s producers. Rebecca Cho, Will Greenfield, and Ludwig Göransson serve as executive producers.
In addition, Coogler reunites with a number of his behind-the-camera coworkers from “Black Panther,” including photographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, composer Ludwig Göransson, and costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
