History of the SEC women’s volleyball tournament
For the first time in twenty years, the SEC women’s volleyball tournament is returning.
The tournament began in 1979 and was hosted on campuses until 1988, when it was moved to neutral locations. Campus arenas hosted the competition from 1994 to 2005 when it was put on hold until 2025.
In 1979, Kentucky won their first championship when the Wildcats defeated Tennessee 3-1 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Nonetheless, Florida has the most tournament victories of any program—12—all of which were won under the direction of renowned head coach Mary Wise. The Gators swept Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to win the previous tournament in 2005.
