Santiago 2023 Athletics: How to Watch Live, Schedule and Preview at 19th Pan American Games

At the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023, track and field athletes will compete for 48 sets of medals; two sets have already been awarded in the men’s and women’s marathons. The remaining 46 track, field and road athletics finals will take place from 29 October to 4 November, with the two hammer throw finals appearing especially strong due to the presence of both current and former world champions. These are the athletes to keep an eye on during the track and field events in the capital of Chile.

Athletes competing in track and field at the Pan American Games in Santiago, 2023

Many of the top track and field athletes from the United States, Jamaica, and other nations have chosen to focus on the demanding 2024 season and the Olympic Games that will take place in the summer of 2023, as the 2023 Pan Ams coincide with the conclusion of the world athletics season. Only modest athletic teams from the two major schools have travelled to Santiago, which will allow a lot of fresh talent from the American continents to shine. Yulimar Rojas, a Venezuelan triple jump champion, is also not competing. That does not imply, however, that Chile will lack star power. Strong fields are expected in the men’s and women’s hammer throw competitions, with current world champion Ethan Katzberg (Canada) leading the way, followed by former world champions DeAnna Price and Brooke Andersen (both USA), and the men’s continental record holder Rudy Winkler of USA. A comparatively strong Canadian team also includes veteran men’s race walker Evan Dunfee and women’s shot throw silver support Sarah Mitton. With Peru’s double world champion from 2022, Kimberly García León, looking to win gold in both the women’s 20km and mixed marathon relay race walks, South America, a hotbed of race walk talent, will also put on its best show.
