The second season of Netflix’s NASCAR documentary, which is based on Formula 1’s documentary series Drive to Survive and follows the 2024 Cup Series playoffs, has been eagerly awaited by NASCAR fans. With the creation of this series, Netflix aimed to capitalize on the fact that NASCAR is still the most-watched auto racing sport in the US, despite Formula One’s explosive growth in popularity in recent years.
Just before the new season began, in January of last year, the first season of the show debuted. With an average of 3.4 million views on the streaming channel, it covered Ryan Blaney’s championship run and the 2023 playoffs.
On May 7th, Season 2 will premiere, continuing to follow the fierce competition for the NASCAR Cup Series title. In Season 2, 16 playoff drivers will be featured, including Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Daniel Suarez, and Chase Briscoe.
Fans can anticipate more access to these drivers’ and their loved ones’ lives while they compete on the track every week, according to the trailer. Apparently, Netflix will also not be avoiding the highly controversial cut-off race at Martinsville, where automakers were charged of attempting to rig the event in order to qualify their favorite car for the Championship 4. Christopher Bell was immediately ejected from the title bout while standing on pit road, and he received severe penalties as a result.
“We have the tiebreaker over William [Byron],” voiced by Bell’s wife Morgan. “And then I realize nobody is celebrating.”
In addition, Julia Piquet publicly criticized husband Daniel Suarez’s prospects of making the playoffs, saying, “We sent our boy to war on a donkey, holding a wooden spoon.”
The Briscoe family’s preparations to welcome twins into the world during the playoffs and Gianna Blaney’s marriage preparations are the main topics of the trailer, which also teases some personal scenes.
