NCAA Tournament 2025: Five Big 12 Softball Teams Earn Bids

The NCAA Softball Tournament field of 64 included five Big 12 teams for the second straight year. The remaining teams in the league’s 2025 postseason selections were Texas Tech, Arizona, Arizona State, UCF, and Oklahoma State.

Texas Tech, the No. 12 seed and the Big 12 regular season and postseason winners, earned a home regional; they will host in Lubbock. This Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT, the Red Raiders will play Brown in their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. Washington and Mississippi State will be included in the Lubbock Regional as well. Following their victory in the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship, Texas Tech secured the Conference’s automatic bid

Arizona completed the league’s host clubs with the No. 13 seed. In a regional that also features Grand Canyon and Ole Miss, the Wildcats will remain in Tucson and play Santa Clara on Friday. In their first season in the league, Arizona advanced to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship final and finished second in the Conference.

Oklahoma State was selected to the Fayetteville Regional, their 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. OSU will begin regional play against Indiana on Friday at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN2, hoping to advance to its sixth consecutive Super Regionals. Saint Louis, the host, and Arkansas, the national No. 4 seed, are both in the regional.

Arizona State will enter the field for the first time since 2022 after earning an at-large bid. At 7 p.m. MST on Friday, the Sun Devils are heading to Los Angeles to play San Diego State on ESPNU.

UCF is one of three Big 12 teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year after being chosen as an at-large bid to the Austin Regional. When the Knights play Michigan on Friday, it will be their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Each location will hold a four-team, double-elimination tournament during the regionals, which are scheduled for May 16–18. The 16 winning teams will go on to the super regional tournament.
