There are now eight teams vying for an NCAA men’s lacrosse championship.
This week marks the start of the 2025 NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament quarterfinals, with the eight surviving teams hoping to make it to the national semifinals at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Many of the sport’s top-ranked teams are still in the running for championships. No. 1 Cornell, No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Princeton, No. 5 Penn State, and No. 6 Syracuse are still in the running. Notre Dame, the two-time national champion, is also in the running after defeating Ohio State, the fourth-seeded national seed, to reach the quarterfinals.
Two distinct locations and two different days will host the quarterfinal matches. Cornell vs. Richmond and Princeton vs. Syracuse are the two games that will be played on May 17 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, while the other two, Maryland vs. Georgetown and Notre Dame vs. Penn State, will be played on May 18 at the USNA campus in Annapolis, Maryland.
At least one national title has been won by each of the five remaining programs: Notre Dame, Princeton, Syracuse, Maryland, and Cornell.
