NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse Championship History-
The NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship has been a hallmark of small-college athletic excellence since its debut in 1980. Known for its tradition, competitive balance, and thrilling finishes, the tournament has produced dynasties, underdog stories, and unforgettable moments over four decades.
The championship’s inaugural title in 1980 went to Hobart College, which defeated SUNY Cortland to begin what would become one of the most dominant runs in NCAA lacrosse history. Hobart went on to win 12 consecutive national championships from 1980 to 1991, a feat unmatched in Division III lacrosse. Their dominance defined the early years of the tournament and helped shape the sport’s national landscape.
In 2024, Tufts University captured its first NCAA DIII men’s lacrosse national title in nine years, defeating Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 18–14 in a high-scoring, energetic final. The win marked Tufts’ fourth national title, having previously won in 2010, 2014, and 2015. Known for their fast-paced offense and relentless ride, Tufts re-established itself among the elite with the victory.
