Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games: Complete Sports Schedule Released

2028 Los Angeles Olympics

The competition schedule was formally released on Wednesday, bringing the dash to LA28 one step closer. The opening and closing ceremonies for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are scheduled for July 14 and July 30, respectively. 51 disciplines and 36 sports will be included in the 2028 Olympic Games.

With 50.5% of the 11,200 athletes in 51 sports across 49 venues being female for the first time, LA28 will be historic for female Olympians in particular.

After carefully examining the timetables, Olympic and Sports Federation officials decided to switch the swimming and track and field events this year. Starting with the 100-meter dash on Day 1 of the Games, the most number of women will ever compete in a final. Three 100-meter heats must be completed by women each day.

“We want to come out in these Games with a bang. We want to start Day 1 with a showcase of the fastest females in the world,” LA28 Chief of Sport Shana Ferguson said. “We’re kicking off the athletic competition with one of the marquee events for women athletes.”

Swimming competitions will be held the next week, allowing participants to enjoy the opening ceremony rather than preparing for competition the following morning. The Los Angeles Rams’ home stadium, SoFi Stadium, will host the swimming event.

“Super Saturday” on July 29 is one of the most eagerly awaited Olympic Games days. 26 finals sessions in 23 sports, including basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cricket, golf, football, swimming, and tennis, will be part of the stacked deck. With 15 team competitions for gold and bronze medals as well as finals in 15 individual sports that day, there will be a lot on the line.

Lacrosse, baseball, softball, and cricket will all be back in the Olympic program. The baseball games will begin on July 13, one day before the opening ceremony, at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ home field. The Dodgers had won back-to-back World Series.

In 1908, lacrosse was a recognized Olympic medal sport. In 1928, 1932, and 1948, it served as a demonstration sport. For the first time in 128 years, cricket will be included in the Olympics.

On July 15, American flag football and squash will make their Olympic debuts. The Los Angeles Paralympics and American flag football schedules will be revealed at a later time.

Before the closing ceremony, the last swimming champion and the men’s and women’s marathons will wrap up the Olympics.

There won’t be any dynamic pricing and over 14 million tickets will be available for purchase. Registration for tickets will start in January.
