Jennie, a member of the globally acclaimed girl group BLACKPINK and K-pop sensation, has announced that she will be releasing her highly anticipated debut solo album, Ruby, on March 7th. The 29-year-old star announced the happy news on her social media accounts, posting stunning teaser photos that have already generated excitement among fans.
The 15 songs on “Ruby” will come from a variety of genres, including Jennie’s single “Mantra,” which was made available earlier in October 2024. The album will also include songs by international artists such as Doechii, Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, FKJ, Kali Uchis, and Dominic Fike.
On January 21, the singer shared a teaser video and the album’s stellar guest list on social media. Her independent label, Odd Atelier, also launched the pre-order on the same day.
Jennie rose to fame in 2016 as a member of BLACKPINK, the group that redefined K-pop on a global level. Known for their record-breaking success, BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group to top the US Billboard 200 chart and headline major music festivals such as Coachella.
Jennie recently talked about the very personal process of making Ruby in an interview with Billboard. “It’s not nice to be someone who’s always like, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t say anything,’ ” she said of the project she began in early 2024. “I want to say I’m almost there.” Acknowledging the challenges she had along the way, she continued, “I’m just going to say, ‘I don’t do well with time.’”
Since debuting with BLACKPINK in 2016, Jennie has been instrumental in their meteoric rise to global fame. BLACKPINK’s groundbreaking achievements include becoming the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella in 2019 and the first Korean girl group to top the Billboard 200 with their second album, Born Pink, in 2022.
Later in 2023, Jennie founded Odd Atelier and partnered with Columbia Records to give her creative freedom to pursue her solo ambitions.
“While I was on my last BLACKPINK tour, I couldn’t stop myself from starting to plan ahead,” Jennie said. “I listed out the things that I want in my life and started pinpointing, or prioritizing, what’s my very next step. And instantly, I was like, ‘I still haven’t accomplished the dream of releasing a solo album.’ I wanted to satisfy myself by achieving that goal.”
In 2023, Jennie made her acting debut in the HBO drama series The Idol and was granted an honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire. She also released her long-awaited solo album. In March 2024, she also teamed up with Brockhampton’s Matt Champion to release a collaboration, titled “Slow Motion.”
To further increase the excitement, it has also been confirmed that Jenny will perform at Coachella in April 2025.
