In addition to being a heavy metal legend, Ozzy Osbourne was a pioneer in the reality TV landscape with his family’s docuseries show “The Osbournes.” Following Osbourne’s death earlier this month, fans are flocking to streaming platforms to discover more about the Black Sabbath leader.
The show’s four seasons are presently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. You can sign up for a free Amazon Prime trial.
“It was so wrong, but unlike anything else that was on TV,” former MTV topper Van Toffler, who spent nearly three decades at the network and oversaw many of its landmark series, including “The Osbournes,” told Source following the music icon’s passing. “First of all, that family — with the king of metal featured, and all the things he was allegedly accused of doing — but also the language! We had to bleep so much of the dialogue. That became such an integral part of it, the way we bleeped it, how often we bleeped it, and we weren’t making it up.”
When “The Osbournes” premiered on MTV in 2022, it instantly transformed the television landscape. The show chronicled Osbourne’s daily life in Beverly Hills with his wife and manager Sharon, as well as his children Kelly and Jack. During its initial season, MTV’s most-watched series ever provided an unfiltered glimpse into the intimate life of a heavy metal family.
The sitcom, which aired for four seasons and 52 episodes until March 21, 2005, portrayed the Osbournes managing everyday household issues like furniture mishaps, Sharon’s cancer diagnosis, and Ozzy’s well-publicized antics, mixed with explosive outbursts and irreverent comedy. In 2002, the series earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program.
Osbourne, 76, passed away on Tuesday after a long fight with Parkinson’s disease. He had just performed at what was supposed to be Black Sabbath’s final gig, a festival called “Back to the Beginning.”
